With the new football season just around the corner, we took it upon ourselves to create our very own Super Sunday a week early before the Championship football season kicks off this weekend. With 3 declared runners and all 3 favourites, confidence was high that we may collect a trophy that afternoon. 3 very quickly turned to 2, unbelievably after the drout the whole country has suffered, the quick deluge of rain had made the ground at Uttoxeter too soft for MRSROBIN and as such she was pulled out of the race and declared for Newton Abbot a day later. Unfortunately the weather then hit the south coast, and again she was pulled. We’re hopeful she will run at Market Rasen this Sunday where she has an entry, should the ground firm up again.

Wolverhampton it was then, and DOCUMENTING made it 1 out of 1 for the day as he comfortably won the 2.50 race. Given a great front running ride by Jason Watson, The top weight broke well and had the lead at the first bend and quickly put the race to bed 2 furlongs out winning by a cosy 4 and a half lengths. The jockey was full of praise for our lad, and thinks he could be a listed horse. Exciting times for all involved in the 5yo French gelding.

We had to wait until the last to see THE THROSTLES line up, money came for the horse all day and he was sent off the 2/1 favourite. The cheekpieces that he wore at Pontefract were left off, and a change of jockey employed as Joshua Bryan made his BGC debut. The horse broke well and was held in behind the leaders, travelling arguably better than stablemate Documenting had done earlier in the day. With 2 furlongs left to run, Our lad had the field all off the bridle with Joshua still sat in 3rd with a double handful surely just waiting to press go. He went for home but the 2 leaders that had split hung back towards each other and forced Joshua in to a very impressive bit of riding, pulling his mount away from the trouble and changing to the inside before the horse showed a really nice attitude and he quickened away well to win the race by a length. We have a couple of 5% shares still left in the lad, and his Racehorse Trader advertisement can be found here: http://www.racehorsetrader.com/horses-for-sale/syndicates-and-shares/the-throstles-(gb)/

Our 2nd double of the year but our first on the flat, and our first with Kevin Frost made it a day to remember for all concerned.  For any owners who would like pictures of the day, the racecourse photographer is Jonathan Hipkiss and the photos can be found at www.jahphoto.co.uk.
